A pretty handy Mandrel for my lathe. It’s the Wine Stopper mandrel from Woodcraft, but I used it for a number of things and have some good ideas for a few more. It’s a simple screw mandrel that fits in my drill chuck on the lathe. Drill a centered hole, and screw it on the lathe, bring up the taill stock to hold it stead and turn away. When you get near done, loosen it from the tail stock to finish the end, and blammo, done!

Upgraded to Wordpress 2.0…

Not much else to note, other than today is the first day I haven’t turned something in almost a full week. It was a busy holiday season, pictures coming of course, and the presents handed out so far have been well recieved.

I turned:

• 12 small Butter knife handles
• 2 large Butter knife handles
• 2 large Steak knife handles
• 3 key chains
• 6 pens
• 1 Wine Bottle stopper

I used a wide variety of woods, including walnut, rosewood, apple, bloodwood, ebony, and cherry.

I’ve been busy as a beaver lately… or should that be busy as a badger?

I quit my job of nearly 8 years at Microsoft as a Software Tester, and next year I start up with a new company. It’s been a big change for me, but the nice thing is that I’ve had some time off to work in the garage.

I’ve been turning out (pun intended) lots of christmas gifts, which I’ll post about after they’ve been given out (don’t want to spoil it in case they read this blog, does anyone read this blog?)

But lets just say, I’ve very pleased with how every thing has been turning out. I’ve been a bit discouraged in the shop lately, but all that is over now, I’ve gotten some great stuff done, and opened up some new doors!!
